Newsday is the main newspaper and has been hurt by the Internet and declining ad sales, but it is still the only one with true professionals on staff and is the only one capable of uncovering corruption on Long Island . . . and there is plenty of it. The people who call it a "rag" -- but still seem to continue to read it along with about a million other Long Islanders a week -- are usually Republicans who keep voting the corrupt politicians into office and then complain about the high taxes out here, much of which still goes to GOP patronage jobs. During the pandemic, the anti-masker crowd has joined groups that don't like Newsday because the paper prefers to adhere to science, as do most people with any intelligence. If Newsday was gone tomorrow, the politicians would run wild out here and the paper's critics would be complaining loudly that someone needs to rein them in.
Patch is fine for local news, but it is barely journalism and is produced largely by amateurs. Same for the local weekly papers.
What was the turning point? What happened to make it such trash?
I didn’t post that comment but as a subscriber I can say it is now a very leftist newspaper which couldn’t find a single positive thing to say about Trump and is very pro-illegal immigrants. It wasn’t always that way but things changed when the Dolan family purchased it I guess about 10-15 years ago. It was reacquired by a member of the Dolan family after Cablevision was sold and continues its leftist agenda.
It was always a greedy paper filled with ads, but I would say about 15 years ago seems right on the money. There is little news in it now especially that you can read most on the internet for updates.

They are just fact based, which made it hard for them to say anything positive about Trump.

Big shocker that the Fox News dolts have a big problem with Newsday
if you're not a subscriber, how would you know what is and isn't in it?
Family member subscribes I use her online access. I left LI. 8 years ago. When I was a kid I helped the neighbors son with his paper route. The paper was full of ads then long ago, long, long ago. Back in the 80’s we subscribed and did so up til the mid 2000”s when I got ticked off at the tip demand notes I received. We had one simple request. Double bag when inclement weather. Not everyday just in bad wearing. It was too much to ask. So I stopped tipping then I called and explained that if I was unable to read what I was delivered I would simply deduct the cost of that days paper after reporting it.
If you eliminate the ads you have 1/3 the paper and the cost is absurd.
