Yeah they must have pulled a fast one because there wasnt even any clearance signs or anything just about a week ago
The Massapequa store has been going way downhill in the past few years
There was this undercover security guard who was infamous for harassing people
Which for a struggling company like Sears was terrible for business
I was very suprised when Hicksville closed
Hicksville seemed to always be the biggest/best stocked
I thought for sure Hicksville was going to be the last Sears standing on the island
The worst thing Sears did was stop the catalog
I guess at the time they figured no one really ordered from catalogs anymore
Just a few years too little too late - little did they know almost everyone mail orders things now
Yet another thing ruined by corporate greed
For the store that was so famous for its catalog, they unfortunately missed the boat setting up online shopping to compete with Amazon and others.
They are trying to do it now but whether it is too late, I do not know.
If you had any issue with the old Craftsman tools, Sears backed them up and did the right thing.
Yes Sears was always good with their warranty
At least compared to some of the other tool dealers
However it was known that some people would abuse the policy just to get a brand new tool even if the old one wasnt damaged or anything
Now the question is - is there any more Sears on LI still open?
I want to say there is one still open somewhere out east
Possibly in the Smithtown mall or something like that
I have fond memories of the Hicksville store with the McDonald's inside. My dad bought all of his tools from there and so did I back when I needed my own. The Craftsman brand was synonymous with American made quality. Their tool chests, lawnmowers and power equipment was also top tier. But then they did the unspeakable.
They outsourced their Craftsman tools to China. No longer were those quality tools produced here with craftsmanship. It was the same quality as the Huskey or Harbor freights Pittsburgh line. On top of that they sold their Craftsman power tool line to Black and Decker who is a bottom teir manufacturer. All because they could save money and this tarnished their reputation.
I know I've said this before but it so frustrating seeing a once proud American staple slowly sink into the ground. So many stupid decisions made by incompetent people leading the company.
Lampert didn't give two craps about Sears and Kmart. He wanted the real estate that they owned. Once he bought out Sears, with hundreds of millions in debt that was put on to Sears Holdings, the end was written. It was just a matter of when, not if.
Lampert sold of piece by piece the money making parts of Sears. Namely the Craftsman and Kenmore labels. He spun off the real estate in to a company that he alone controlled. Then then he took Sears public, loaded with that debt from the takeover. He put zero dollars in to Sears. Did not update the stores. Did not bother to upgrade merchandise lines. Laid off workers at all levels, cutting to barebones. Customers saw this, and left in droves.
Now Sears and KMart are down to a handful of stores. By this time next year, they will all likely be gone. Debt holders will be left holding the bag. Lampert will walk away hundreds of millions of dollars richer.

They are trying to do an online store, but putting very little money in to it. Lampert is not spending any money on what is left of Sears/Kmart. Stores are bare of goods, as they are only getting from manufacturers on consignment or COD, as they don't trust Lampert further than they can throw him to pay his bills.

Massapequa was the last LI store. There are probably less than 60 Sears or Kmart stores left nationwide.

Yep he’s worth 1.9 billion for running a once great company into the ground and costing countless jobs. It’s insane.
