yeah, agreed, but we were seeing seven to ten percent yearly increases. the cap helped relieve the pain .
What cuts have taken place? Wait don’t tell me round up the usual suspects. Sports, bussing distance, after school programs, clubs. How about some of the perks? For staff, admin, etc.
But that's OK, because as we all know, "It's for the kids"...........even though their competency levels seem to be dropping, at least as it's been reported.
I understand Chuck sucks all the air out of a room when there is a camera and a microphone present, but is there a more useless politician in NY besides Gilibrand?
Repeal the 17th Amendment
17th? Screw that. Repeal the 19th. Feelings do not belong in politics. Women use feelings when voting.

a lot is contractual or state mandated, not a lot you can do there....

ha. if anything it's getting worse, now with pressure for pre-k, state mandates for special needs kids, etc.
I do know that I was seeing increases on my school taxes of $700 - $1000 /year back before the two percent cap was initiated. Now it's usually $200 to $300 yearly.
My NY state income tax rate has stayed the same during that time, so I believe that adds up to less $$ out of my pocket, which is the bottom line. Without the cap I would probably be paying $7000-$10000/year more in school tax by now. I would like to believe that the cap has dampened the spending.
There was also an influx of federal $$ the past few years to NY schools. Yeah, I know we pay that too (sigh).
I attend school board meetings regularly. Our school budget has increased only a few percent yearly over the past few years, which is reasonable.
P.S. I am not an educator or school administrator , and I believe administrators need to cut at the top. Do I think my school district needs an Assistant Director of Fine Arts ? Of course not. The director can ensure that the ceramic kilns are functioning properly.

I never understood how that worked.
At one point, I saw 7%-10% yearly increases in my school tax. This is in Suffolk where grieving is difficult. Every one of those years, my district was listed as being under the 2% cap.
Looks like just a shell game. School tax goes up $1,000 or more, and they somehow get to claim it's less than 2%.
As much as I wasnt a fan of Coumo, hes a godsend over Hocul. I still wonder how she won?
