That's definitely exaggerated. Oakdale is a more upscale area, but Ronkonkoma has no major issues.

There are drugs in every high school on LI, including Port Jefferson and Cold Spring Harbor, maybe even moreso, because the kids have so much disposable income.

We were at a daytime party in Ronkonkoma a couple of weeks ago, and large airplanes flew overhead (close!!), landing and taking off, I'm not kidding every half hour or more. Could be every 10-15 mintues. I understand that stops after 10 p.m., but if I were you I'd hang around your new house for a full day to see what you think. I found it disruptive and loud. And a bit comedic. (If I could attach a pic to this post, I'd show you how close it was to the house but I don't think I can do that?)

It depends on where you are. I lived less than a mile from the airport, and yes you could hear planes all day, but it wasn't distracting, and it's nothing compared to the car stereo air pollution that you have to deal with on Long Island during the summer.

Ronkonkoma is a great place to live. The community is involved with the local businesses and the people are all friendly.

I lived their for 5 years (5 years ago), and I know there are organizations that are strong there (KofC) among others, so get involved!

I think they are comparing it to Compton, a ghetto part of Los Angeles. For a sixties touchstone about the place read "Burn Baby Burn".

Wow. I never would have guessed that. I only heard about Watts and even that was so long ago.

Anyone else have any opinions on this area. It is near connetquot park in Ronkonkoma. It is just north of Vets, and there is no through streets its just the park/woods.

Thanks. We moved in already so its too late to not buy it lol.

Well then I suppose you can tell us... ;-)

My first house was north of where you are (on the 'other' side of the tracks) on Port ave and it was a great neighborhood. No complaints. I think you will be perfectly happy where you are. :-)
