What is it like if so? Is it pleasant to walk through? What's there to do there? Where is it? Moving to LI within the next 3 months and looking at a home that is in Bayshore around what is called Brightwater Farms area.

Yes Bay Shore has a downtown main street area, its very nice but some parts of it (particularly towards Islip) are a not as nice looking as it could be.

I remember when downtown Bay Shore was like an inner city 'hood, now its actually very nice with all new stores and restaurants.

I would move here and rent before you jump into a purchase. What if you buy and dont like the area?
Just my 2 cents!

It's got a great little BBQ place. A new toy store, nice little places to eat. I like it. I've seen worse Main streets.

It's gotten a lot better, but hasn't quite had the renaissance some people expected. It was very bleak from the late 70's until about 10 years ago.

Downtown Bay Shore (Main Street) has become quite nice and continues to be on the upswing. If you decide to rent for a year first, there are several very nice new apartment options in various parts of Bay Shore. All are built/managed by Greenview Properties (whose offices are in Bay Shore on Main Street).

Also, if you live in Brightwaters Farms you actually have two downtown areas close by: Bay Shore itself, and also the Village of Babylon which is only a few miles west of Bay Shore along the same road (Montauk Highway, Route 27A).

I don't know what your price range is, but I'd try West Islip. Better schools, and it's in between two big towns in Babylon and Bay Shore.

Is that the old fire house?

I'll have to check that out on my next trip up, as BBQ is religion down here.
