I mean, cost of living, taxes, schools, lifestyle, distance to NYC, etc are pretty comparable in both places, but you don't hear people in Westchester complaining nearly as much as they do here. If anything, Long Island has much more to offer than Westchester...I just don't understand the negativity towards Long Island as compared to Westchester. I'm fairly new to Long Island and was originally considering moving to Westchester so I'm hoping people can shed some light on this. I'm truly baffled!

Because there's a pitbull on the Westchester forum and if anyone writes anything the slightest bit negative they get bit. (***shhhhh*** that's a secret)

I think that traffic and congestion are bigger issues here..not much bigger, but still.

Good question. IMO its at least partly due to the fiercely competitive nature of life on LI. With this very high density population, competition is high for limited resources such as affordable housing, good jobs, a clear lane on the LIE, heck, even to compete for the shortest line at the crowded supermarkets. It is an island afterall, and there's precious little room left here for folks that wish to 'escape' from the high pressures and tensions that a large population brings. Some folks thrive on that sort of lifestyle, others (including myself) don't. If you've lived here for a good long time, you can recall that it wasn't always like this. LI has grown up & out. It has changed, some for the better, some for the worse. Those that have watched what they value decline over the years are understandably resentful, and they express that bitterness here.

I grew up in Westchester.

Traffic and congestion are not NEARLY as bad in Westchester. It's also much smaller, so you don't have as many people commenting in that forum. Now, if you want to see people complaining, just go to the journal news (the newsday of westchester) website and you'll see plenty complaining on those forums.
