My husband and I have decided its time to move from Brooklyn to Long Island. However, we do not know much about Long Island and need help in figuring out the best neighborhood for us to settle.
We are both Eastern European Jews. We are not religious, but do follow some Jewish traditions.
We eat organic, healthy food, so having some sort of Food Coop (as we belong to one in Brooklyn) would be a huge plus.
So, we're looking for a neighborhood with really good schools, some Secular Jews, Health food stores, and decent sized lots. Preferably water view homes. Our price range is 5 - 7 hundred
We were looking at Merrick, Plainview, WoodMere, Hewlett and accidentally in the midst of it all ended up looking at an open house in BrookHaven. Which we totally loved, but know pretty much nothing about the neighborhood, except the nature there is unbelievable (especially coming from Brooklyn)
Essentially, my question is this, what neighborhood would you recommend for us, that has all the features described above?
Plainview doesn't have any waterviews (at least oceans), but is a solid hamlet - close to many areas of interest, very good school district, lots of secular jews, etc. You will probably get the most house for your money in Plainview than any of the other hamlets/ villages you've mentioned.

Thank you for your help!
The house is actually in the Hamlet of Brookhaven, or Brookhaven Township? Look at the school district rankings. There will be no comparison between the school districts you were looking at in Nassau vs. Brookhaven Hamlet, which is most likely South Country SD. Also, I'm not sure how much of a Jewish community there is that far out in Suffolk.
There are no food co-ops on LI. There are some health food stores.
movingfrombrooklyn, in case you are unfamiliar with the local geography:
What people refer to colloquially as "towns" are actually villages and hamlets, which are within actual towns; and, because villages and hamlets are referred to as "towns", then, many times, the error is compounded when actual towns are referred to as "townships".
Also, many colloquially refer to a "downtown business district" in a hamlet as a "village".
When you do find a house that you like, you can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.
Long Beach is on the water and actually has a substantial hassidic population.
The OP has stated that they are non-observant, secular Jews and, as a general rule, non-observant, secular Jews want to keep as far away as possible from Torah observant Jews.
Long Beach
Fun in the "Boardwalk" days but the community has changed in the last 50 years.
Take a visit that includes a look at the schools, and see if you feel safe on the street where you would consider buying a house.

Reason: More information
#1 thing to consider on LI is the quality of the schools and the tax rates. Both VARY WIDELY.Read the SCHOOL REPORT CARD IN NEWSDAY ,and seee what you can afford.
A lot of the organic produce you eat comes from Suffolk county. There is also an opportunity to grow your owm 100% pesticide free/organic fruits and veg.
Look at the schools 1st, then look for a place where you feel safety is not an issue.Eastern European Jews, my grandparents for example, have been coming to LI for 90 years.
steer clear from brookhaven. trust me. i am in brookhaven hamlet and it is not good
