I think so, unless you live in one of the very few areas with a horrifically bad school district.....in which case, you'd probably be better off just moving somewhere else IMO.

I have plenty to add but I'll wait for the comments to come in....

For Torah-observant Jews, private schools (in this case, Jewish day schools) are definitely not a waste of money.

The business connections I have been able creat due to being an alumni of Chaminade has paid back the tuition tenfold.

More importantly, I have life long friends.....but that could be said of many schools.

Definitely no. You are not paying for the education but for the connections that increase the probability of gaining admission to an elite university.

Depends. As pp have pointed out, the connections you make at some of these schools are unbelievable. Especially Chaminade - their alumni network is stronger and probably more powerful than most colleges/universities/

As far as elementary school - I would have to say probably. But if a faith based education is important to someone, then there's really no alternative. And to some people, that's extremely important, and you can't overlook that - money doesn't come into play. My sister used to teach at a Catholic school in a solid middle class area and she said she knew parents who were eating soup every night to send their kids there. Not worth it IMHO but to others they obviously see a payoff.

a graduate of kellenberg 03', id say a waste of money based off the education quality. teachers were hired because they were former students, because there husbands knew the director the xxx department, etc. great way to hire

i had multiple teacher changes throughout the 4 years during the middle of trimesters, 2 classes actually had 3 teacher changes in a year. 2 of those classes being a math and science, and it was definitely clear in my college classes i was behind.

hopefully since then they've realized what comes first in the school. because canceling a prom isn't one of them.

I should revise my previous post to mimic yours. I think Catholic grammar schools aren't worth the money (provided the local public schools are good ones) but a top-notch Catholic high school, on the other hand, is well worth the money. Colleges are going to be interested in a kid's high school education but I doubt they'll care very much if the same kid went to 1st grade in a Catholic grammar school. Of course, if money is no object, you can't go wrong with Catholic schools for all grade levels but if it's a choice, it's much better to spend the money on the later grades.
