Only in the public sector someone gets raise after raise after raise for doing the EXACT SAME JOB.
No I have alreeady shown that is typical for private sector union jobs. Though most progressions are MUCH quicker. From experience 3 steps to top is better than 5 which is pretty standard. 10 years to top pay is terrible and 20 steps to top pay is nothing more than an insult.
Contract expires...all benefits expire....see how high the teachers would jump to settle right away.
This is not permitted by the same law that prevents them from striking.
The public gets continuation of service, and the workforce gets staus quo.
NYCTA workers mantra used to be,, "No Contract, No Work"
The taylor law made this illegal.
When a contract expired for the TBTA cops in the early 1970's the TBTA tried to do something to the effect changing the terms once the contract expired. 1972's Triboro ammendment to the Taylor law enforced the terms of the previous contract until a new one is settled.
If all obligations to the teachers expired, then all obligations of the teachers would expire, the taylor law is a 2-way street.

Oh yea, the teachers should be insulted that they start at 45-55k, work 9 months of the year, get pensions and retiree health benefits, get raises every single year above COLA (which doesn't happen in the private sector unless you are another union leech), and have tenure. Yea, very insulting indeed.

Quite presumptuous, aren't we? Why is it that anyone who complains about teacher pay/cop pay is either jealous of their pay or a criminal? Can't we just want to pay a fair amount for the service?

45-55 with a Masters AND a teaching liscence is pathetic but the carrot for better days is promised though the long climb up and the vested interest in your deffered compensation.... the pension. Pay less now for future promises. That is why the avarage teachers pay is only 75k.

Yea, tell that to people graduating with a masters degree now who can't get a job for $45k WORKING THE FULL YEAR.
Do you have a source for your $75k average? I've seen the average closer to $90 for the majority of school districts. Or are you playing with numbers again so suit your agenda?

Alot of us believe we are and the recent results only goes to prove it.

Wrong, the vote wasn't indicitive of public sentiment. The only thing the vote showed is that there is a strong vested interest in keeping the programs in place.
Let's put teacher/administrator compensation to a vote and see what happens.
