Venice isn't a good area for public transit. It's one of the worst actually.

If you want to do public transit you're better off in Koreatown, Hollywood or Downtown.

If you really have your heart set on moving to L.A., then you should make it happen. HOWEVER.... (and there's always a caveat, isn't there?)

Before you go any farther, get in touch with some people who have made similar moves. We can sit here and tell you how much rents cost, how hard it is to find a job, how patchy public transportation is - but someone who's moved here recently can give you a better perspective on what it's like to jump in.

Remember that L.A. will still be here in a year or two. You'll have a much better chance of being able to stay out here long-term if you've already built up impeccable work experience and references, and if you've already started seriously studying acting. Here's a thought: I notice that Elon has a theatre department. Have you taken any classes there? School is always a good place to start - and you'll have a better chance of landing any job if you have a degree.

I'd rather live in Santa Monica than Venice, personally. Much cleaner, and still close to the beach. Check Craigslist for apartments. There are affordable ones in Santa Monica, but they get rented really quickly. My sister found a very nice, very large 1-bedroom apartment in a great neighborhood of Brentwood for $1100. It's possible to find something for less, but it might be shabby and small. I know many struggling actors who have lived in Van Nuys and North Hollywood for the affordability factor. Close enough to auditions, but especially Van Nuys is not that attractive.
