I agree about "the hills" and "the OC," but Hollywood is definitely a part of Los Angeles... I don't know what the "reluctance" is that you're talking about. Hollywood is a part of Los Angeles no matter how you view it. It's a neighborhood, and it has district boundaries and everything.

It's getting to the point where it's just easier to say your are from SoCal, NorCal or The Bay. At least that gives people a general idea and then, if necessary, you can get more specific. LOL

Yes, Hollywood is quintessentially LA to the point where it'd be hard to think of it as belonging to anywhere else. That said, there are parts of Hollywood that are decidedly less touristy and have far more of a "locals" feel.

East Hollywood, for instance, is pretty much the antithesis of the Hollywood depicted in popular media and culture: prettyugly.: East Hollywood

I've complemented you before but it bears repeating that you are an extraordinary photographer who captures Los Angeles like none I have ever seen. You really ought to publish your photo!

The amusing thing about Hollywood is the variations of what is classified as being "Hollywood". There is debate on what is considered Hollywood itself. Is East Hollywood part of Hollywood or it's own separate neighborhood? Just one such example.

Generally speaking I agree with the LA times

But the "official" boundaries (that NO ONE FOLLOWS) makes Hollywood a lot larger and stretching into Los Feliz.
