I was born and raised in Southern CA, but really mostly in Orange County. LA is where we'd go to hang out because it was "cool".

Now I'm an adult and have kids and my husband is interviewing for a job in Burbank, and I'm wondering where the decent neighborhoods with good public schools are within a decent commute to Burbank. A school district with good resources for autistic kids would be a plus.

Thanks!

V. =)

Burbank is good, La Crescenta and La Canada are better. All depends on your budget, also renting or buying. No sure about autistic resources but it should be better in the favorable districts.

Thank you. I will start looking there. Ideally we'd like to buy. We've currently been looking at homes here in Orange County in Aliso and Mission Viejo, but my hubby might be changing jobs, so we don't want to commute from here.

Here is a start
School Performance Maps

Also, Burbank is served by metrolink (double check) so even Simi Valley and Santa Clarita are not out of the question.

Burbank itself has pretty good public schools.

Glendale is right next to Burbank and also has decent schools. I love Burbank, though.

Don't know your budget, but Studio City is really nice. I have no idea how the schools are, though.

Any idea on what those commute times are like? Our budget for a house is only about $450,000, and we really need 4 bedrooms (we have 3 kids, and I work from home), so there's not a lot in Burbank or La Canada that meet the criteria.

After 3 years in Seattle, though, my hubby is fond of public transit, so I don't think he'd mind commuting that way.

Thanks!

V. =)

santa clarita and simi valley sound like decent options for you. unfortunately, <$500k does not give you many options for nice communties with good schools that are close to major job centers in LA (burbank included).
