Hi SomethingSomething, to help answer your questions Brentwood, Palisades, SaMo are all fantastic communities with great schools for kids but pretty pricey top dollar homes especially for a detached single family. A condo or townhome in these areas could possibly be more doable in your price range and good to consider. For Rancho Park, try looking slightly beyond the redfin boundary line since realestate boundaries are sometimes generalized for ease (Northwards up to Santa Monica blvd. and South to Westside Village section between National blvd. & Palms ave. (nice ranch style streets.) I forgot to mention "Clover Avenue Elementary" on the list of schools which portions of Rancho Park/Westside Village area fall under.

Beverlywood has beautiful homes and like Rancho Park, it butts up to Cheviot Hills a posh little nabe. The area west of Robertson has always been nice & well kept. East of Robertson has improved very much especially within the last decade with folks trying to get into the westside areas and possibly due to its proximity to the Culver City downtown development.

Good luck!

45-60 mins. Slightly less if you're lucky. The mornings will be much better since you're leaving [presumably] around 6:10 am.

Some rave about Santa Monica schools, but then I see Santa Monica High School only a 7 on Great Schools. Is this high school getting better?

In my opinion, SM primary and middleschools are great. SaMo High leaves a lot to be desired, as most well off residents put their kids in prep school starting 9th grade.
