Only the big earthquakes are very "scary" - especially when they hit you when you are in a deep sleep (Northridge 1994, Sylmar 1971). That white out blizzard last December in Denver and Front Range scared the crap out of me though - three hours to go home 38 miles.

So if your job is in Calabasas, look strongly at Conejo Valley School District in Thousand Oaks. Westlake Hills (and/or Westlake Canyon??/I forget the names) Elementary and Lang Ranch Elementary are extremely high performing. There is a good preschool in Westlake called The Growing Place.

WOW! I did a search on great schools and Lang Ranch Elementary gets a 10 out of 10. I was happy with the 7 that our great elementary school attained.
That is encouraging.
I hope to visit the city this weekend.
They have a good relocation package, just want us to move out very quickly.
I have always been kind of nervous about the CA scene, ,but always in awe of it.
I think it would be great, if we could be safe

You're worrying too much!

Moderator cut: link removed

Take a look at the link above... stats from '03. Crime is way below national averages. Calabasas is a nice area.

Beleive me, you'll love Calabasas. My wife and I when were lazy and dont want to drive too far which is quite often, have lunch at the Calabasas Commons (Kings or Marmalade Cafe) which is only 5 minutes away from home. We may see you there.

Thank SO MUCH for your help! The website is very comforting. I can't wait to get out there and see the area. I am so used to my love/hate relationship with Denver that I have gotten comfortable.

Unless you're a smoker.

Yes, I've heard about that. Because I will be coming from Colorado (clean air), that is one of the best things about Calabasas. No smoking anywhere is a dream come true for me.

The no smoking laws in Calabasas is a dream come true. I hope it expands to other parts of the city and restaraunts.

The only thing that may bother you about Calabasas (especially at the Commons) is that there are many, many, many teenagers and pre-teens hanging out there. Most seem to be good kids but because its the only hangout place in the city theres usually a lot of them and they tend to want use less than desirable language when they are together.

To each his/her own.
The only one of the anti-smoking towns I spend much time in is SM due to proximity and knowing quite a few people there. (Beverly Hills is actually closer to me than SM but I only have a couple of friends there.)
Fortunately outside of the tourist areas (particularly the Promenade) the ban isnt enforced particularly if youre white, not a native Spanish speaker, and middle aged. I'm glad in this respect that SM doesnt have the approach to law enforcement that Culver City does!

California's anti-smoking jihad seems to have coincided with the general decline of L.A., although it is hardly a primary cause it is one of those minor causes that make a difference in their own little way.
