Look at these two great photos from flickr of what Hollywood used to look like. When it did it go downhill and why do you think it did? What mistakes did the local government make?

First you tell us how it went downhill. What does "downhill" mean?

Ok, my experience with Hollywood is very limited, only one visit 20 years ago, so if it hasn't gone downhill, I defer to you locals on that. Many people say it is much dirtier and more crime ridden than it was, of course, I suppose the air may be cleaner now. Pretty smoggy in the photos but it looked like a safe prosperous walkable area too.

As someone who grew up in Hollywood, I know exactly why it went down, but it wouldn't be P.C. to tell you.

Wanna take a wild guess?

Well, if your meaning, "Why did it Change??" Everything changes, or, it dies from stagnation.

Conglomerates are formed, while others fail and fade, and, the fashions change and the people are changing because of thier enviroment.

Lets face it, through Science, a lot of things have changed. Street lights are LEDs, Signs are now LEDs also, and you see everyone walking with thier 'phones' stuck in thier ears or texting on one, walking down the street.

Drugs took thier toll on a lot of things too. Actors and Actresses, and Singers and other Professions have died long before thier times, because of it. Its changed our Generation in a lot of different ways...

Also, what people 'want' has changed a lot... Used to be, there were car dealership and a gas station in every small town, then, Conglomerates came in and ran off the Mom & Pop's gas stations and grocery stores, and all the other little people... Progress, eh?

In another 50 years, someone will be asking about the 2011 and wondering 'where the good ole days have gone again', and, it may be your great grandson

I wish you well...

Jesse

No, in fact that looks better than what I remembered from 1990.

A lot can change in 20 years... and it did. Your memories are stale.

I am sick of this crap. People who saw Hollywood 20 years ago think it hasn't changed?

Do people know that once upon a time Times Square was a dump? Does anyone still compare Times Square to the dump it once was? Or is it different because it's New York and everyone just loves New York. Seriously, you're not the first person to talk about Hollywood because you once saw it in 1990 or whatever.

Hollywood, especially Hollywood blvd, has gone through major gentrification. Hollywood/Highland is a tourist mecca with activity 24/7.
