Yeah, I mean it was GREAT when we had the covenants against selling homes to non-White people. (The segregated water fountains were great too.)

Simply paradise...

if the main sites of LA were packed into a much smaller area (i.e. SF, manhattan, NW quadrant of DC, etc...) then i think outsider's views of the city would be completely different. instead, the "central" areas of LA are located throughout the city, even beyond the borders of the city. hollywood and venice beach are upwards of 15 miles apart. pasadena and beverly hills are at least that far apart. that makes LA a difficult place to travel in. additionally, it allows for 'working class' neighborhoods to fill the voids between the places of interest. if times square were way out in queens, central park in brooklyn and grand central in the bronx, i'm pretty sure NY would be considerably less appealing to visitors as well, even with the comprehensive rail network they have.

FYI L.A. was more polluted in the 1950s (at least from an air quality perspective) than it is today.

And I guess it's just easier to ignore the racial and social issues of the 1950s, and call everything back then "paradise"...

Awesome, so "technically" you don't know what you are talking about.

Maybe YOU should stop jumping to conclusions, especially when it seems everything you know about L.A. you learned from your Grandma.

To be honest the parts of LA that most people outside of LA like, are the parts the vast majority of LA residents do not and will not ever live in. I.e "Hollywood", Beverly Hills etc.

A lot more people are attracted to the "idea" of los angeles, than they are with any real aspects of the city. The real aspects which they either rarely think about or if they do, tend to not think highly of.
