When I was a kid at the beach back in the 1970s I remember to always have to look out for jellyfish as I boogie boarded or swam in the ocean. There always seemed to be one kid being treated by a lifeguard for a jellyfish sting.

I haven't seen a jellyfish in decades (I remember asking this same question in the 1980s).

It's been over 33 years and you're still wondering about some damn jellyfish? Maybe you should make a documentary about it.

I saw some a few months back on Venice/Santa Monica beach. They were washed ashore. It was hard to tell cuz it was getting foggy and the waters always look foamy/frothy. Size of about a quarter or two. It was one here and 10 feet away another. They was almost see thru.

I told them to stop bugging beach goers a while back. Apparently they listened to me.

The 70s had a lot of La Nina years (opposite of El Nino), perhaps those jellyfish prefer cool waters?

I see some every now and then in the harbors, but I've never been stung by one at the beach -- been going since the 80s.
