People are just ignorant. One of the best things about LA is the community college system and the opportunities they provide at such an affordable price. Sure, LAUSD isn't great, but LACCD is top notch. I barely knew algebra after high school. After my time at a CC I became damn near a math expert.

You get what you put in. Just like with a 4yr college or university.

Many people don't take it seriously and kind of slack off , drop out then continue again later or sometimes not .

So I should go to a CC then transfer? I really dont want to go to school other than Cali. A couple of kids out if my high school did this and are just fine. So many mixed answers. Is it hard even going to a CC in cali as a Illinois resident?

No, you should be fine registering. Class spots are competitive in the general ed classes though, so be prepared to "crash" to get a seat.

You can register just like anyone else, it just a lot more expensive. CA residents pay $46 per unit, while you would pay $236 per unit. That means that school more than 5x the cost for you.

You will probably have to pay out of state tuition which is much higher .. But look into this .

So one class would now be around $708?! Not worth it! The CCs are strapped, budget wise, classes are hard to get, instructors' office hours are reduced and the quality of instruction has declined since the first budget cuts went through several years ago.

I agree with this as well. You didn't say specifically if you want to go to school for screenwriting.

It seems almost for something like this it might be best to spend your time writing and networking with other screenwriters. I could be wrong though.

I do still believe in education though. Hollywood is a unique industry though...and "who you know" seems to be more important in this industry than any.

Lot's of ways to get noticed nowadays though with the internet, social media, blogging, etc.

I don't doubt that some can learn that way, but the best thing to do is learn yourself. Being a director would be a different story, it actually helps to go to film school for that. But screenwriting, you can learn through trial and error.

This is still much cheaper then out of state tuition at a UC or cal state.
