Dogs in the Rain (apartment, education, teacher)

My three long-haired dachshunds don't like the rain either, so I leave the door to the garage cracked.

LosFelizDiva, perhaps a nice German-themed rain slicker, with Lederhosen-type embroidery might embolden your Rottie. They're a tough breed, no reason to disdain rainy walks. Do you have a squeak toy? Have it make noise outside in the rain, feed him treats outside in the rain, do things he always likes outside in the rain. You're right, this is an amusing problem in our normally drought-ridden clime. The rain slicker will help.

To our two dog-hating posters, you'll note I don't comment about children's issues, with the exception of L.A. education in general since my husband's a teacher, on this board since I don't have kids and it wouldn't be relevant. If you don't want to relate to domestic pet animals, which is your choice to not have them, you're maybe not the best advisors for those of us who do.

My Chihuahua hated the rain. He used to go under a mailbox or bush or something. I got him some little boots, and that seemed to help.

I have two dogs (big lab mix type dogs) who are petrified of the rain! My one, older dog, will go out if I go with him. He pees real fast and then runs back in the house. But he does a tip toe sort of walk, as to minimize the amount of foot that actually hits the grass. Its hilarious to watch.

Our younger dog hates it so much, its very hard to get her outside. She can hold it for HOURS!!! She would rather lie there in pain because her bladder is going to burst than go out!

We put up our EZ Up last night for the dogs - yes, they are a little spoiled. But that way they will go out.

Good thing it doesn't rain too often!

Man oh man, LA dogs are so sensitive. You should get them to NYC in the winter ....... snow, rain, freezing temps, nothing stops the dogs from going out. No parkas, no slickers and no booties either

Allot of people and pets are very sensitive in California. Maybe something to do with the pollution.

It may be more of a desert thing. It rained here (Southern Nevada) from 10am-11pm non-stop about two weeks ago. We have a covered deck, and forget it the dogs would not step off of that. I told the heeler/lab mix she better hurry and just go. So, being the smart butt of the two, she ran over to the tree, sat down under it and stared at me. Then ran back under the cover without going. Both of them made it until about 9pm and boy did they go then!

My dog eats outside so she will go out in the rain for that. She also loves to walk so once the leash is on rain won't stop her there either. Those are the only times she really wants to go out rain or sun. She doesn't like to go outside unless I go with her, weird mutt.
