I am still excited about the prospects of the NFL coming to L.A. As I am only 28, I do not have many memories of when L.A. did have teams....But, one day I would love to be able to take the expo line down to a stadium in DTLA to watch our team play, if those plans still exist. Well, it looks like one of the prospects to move, the San Diego Chargers, announced last night that they will not opt out of their lease of the Qaulcomm Stadium and move to L.A. for the 2015 season. This is kind of a blow to me because I would not have minded them to come. But, even though it is not of my business lol, I do not see this is a strategic for the SD in that the stadium is bad need of a revamp, and there is no measure on the SD ballot for funding a new stadium until 2016. I have been hearing that much of the city is not in favor of voting for city funding of a new stadium. So if L.A., gets a team(s) next year or 2016, and the city of SD does not approve a new measure for a stadium, SD will be the one, maybe, losing business to L.A., given that they might loss about 30% of their market share to L.A./O.C. Not that i should care about SD's financial business, but it is rather interesting. Thoughts from anyone in L.A. who still wants a team in L.A.

Los Angeles officials have been saying for years that they don't support public funding for stadiums(especially for the NFL) so we're not as attractive to the NFL as some people seem to think. The NFL wants ALL of their stadiums for free and cities that don't already have teams are, by and large, not going to cave. Especially not now that the business side of the NFL is about as popular as Congress. It doesn't make much financial sense to build stadiums for the NFL since they don't pay taxes and they don't bring the city as much money as they cost quickly enough. It's a scam.
But if San Diego did lose the Chargers to Los Angeles it would be a one-two punch to their economy since the San Diego Comic Con is probably moving to Los Angeles in the next few years.

Well, comic con would be a big loss for San Diego. But I don't see how losing 8 NFL home games a year is a huge loss economically to San Diego. It's not like they pay the cheerleaders much...or the concessions workers for that matter.

LA has wisely steered clear of subsidizing professional football. Plenty of dumb public policy blunders made by local officials over the years....this has been one of the few bright spots.

If the Los Angeles Chargers ever return to their original home in LA I just hope it is not on the public dime.

You have to keep in mind that football games bring in people from out-of-city and out-of-state who spend money. And it's not just the home games with concessions making money. It's the surrounding businesses(restaurants, sports shops, shopping centers, etc) that get a boost in business as well as all the people going to bars and sports bars to watch the games every week and all the merchandise that stores all over the city sell. It would hit a lot of businesses and low-income employees very hard.

I don't care who pays to have a stadium built, I think it is rediculous a city like Los Angeles doesn't have a pro football team.

Where as I think it's great we don't have a team...20 years and counting. The NFL is a like a con man or pick pocket all wrapped up self-righteously in phony patriotism.

Trust me, you don't need an NFL team for your city to thrive. Los Angeles has been without the NFL for 20 years, and they seem to be doing fine. It's just more propaganda from Roger " 2 game suspension" Goodell in order to pimp out the taxpayers for a fully subsidized stadium. NYC used to have 2 football teams, and they went to New Jersey, last I checked NYC is doing pretty good.

If the NFL wants to be in LA, then they should rent one of our existing stadiums or pay to build a new one.

I don't want to subsidize some billionaire owner so that he can make more money.

This isn't about LA thriving, we all know LA doesn't need a team to "thrive". It is about all the LA based football fans to have a LA pro team to root for.

I for one would love to have my Los Angeles Rams back. I grew up a Ram fan from back in the Roman Gabriel days. Since the Rams moved to St. Louis, I have been following pro football from afar. I would love to be interested in the NFL draft again, to see who MY team selected.
