I just thought of this thread again. I met someone today to sell them something by my house. They happened to live in the same neighborhood. My neighborhood isn't upscale at all. The lady turned up in a Porsche Panamara (sp) . She looked to be very young likely early 20s . Even used those cars are quite expensive. Of course I don't know if it was bought new or used. It didn't look to old but I don't know what year it was.

Kind of makes me curious as it's rare to even see a porsche driving through my neighborhood. Have no idea of her financial situation, she didn't try to negotiate the price of what I was selling ., but it was a low priced item anyways.

Your kidding me right? I know Mexicans that have lived in California for generations and speak both Spanish and English. My wifes grand parents moved here from Mexico, learned English, her parents spoke both English and Spanish, my wife and her brother and sister, cousins speak both. Our kids speak both. We live in Oxnard where it is 70+% Mexican and everywhere you go everything is labeled Spanish English. I am not saying that I am as fluent as i should be but my kids can translate for me. Which is kind of funny because around here you will see a family talking, maybe needing directions and they will send a kid to ask for those directions in English and walk back to the parents and answer back in Spanish. I have seen that a few times here at the Hospital where I work. The good thing is that we are being taught Spanish for healthcare workers so maybe yet I will catch up to my wife and 6 kids.

Really, We have just moved from southern Cali to southern Fl and have found quite the opposite. Lack of sophistication?? Less educated?? The experience from being here for the past 2years my friend and working with "east coast" folks you guys gotta a long ways to go to catch up with California.
The lack of professionalism and skills to support todays current workplace. Not wanting to evolve and grow, more of an old person's mindset. "I know everything " yet they don't know squat. The info they have was so 10 years ago!

So I beg to differ having lived in both places.

Perhaps due to the population, yes there are more folks and more vagrants running around as opposed to the east coast. Heck it's cold on the east coast and the population is not as great. Many factors to take in.

Glad you're teaching your kids Spanish. It's an asset in LA for the job search.

But a lot of Hispanics don't. Back to my original point. Many second generation do not speak Spanish. Or not very well.

L.A. has a high concentration of celebrities and people connected to sports and the entertainment industry. These are the type of people that have money AND like to show it off. It's a similar situation in a place like South Florida.

Where I live (DFW), people with "old money" seem to drive less fancy rides. Those with newer money immediately go for the S-Class Mercedes, the Bentley or the Aston Martin.

It does make sense though as they were born into money so have less a reason to flaunt it publicly .
Instead they "display their status " in other ways that are not as flashy.

I really don't care for people who drive expensive cars, yet know not much more about them other than they're expensive. OTOH, if you're a car enthusiast and you can appreciate the differences between a Modena and a BRZ, then by all means get a Modena if it's in your budget.

In LA I would say most are probably driving them just because they are expensive .

Kind of sad .
