The point about rust is interesting. Would be interesting to see how this affects the auto industry / repair shops in the region. People driving newer cars seems like it would translate to less repairs done and less auto parts sold, etc.

You definitely see more flashy sports cars in LA & Miami than other cities. Vegas as well.

Most big cities you will see lots of expensive, but still fairly boring cars.

Cars are so over priced these days and with the way people drive in most US cities, if you are rich you should just get a limo driver instead of a fancy car and you can get hammered that way and not get DUI's. Thats what professional athletes should do but they are stupid and like to flaunt their money for the ladies and they still get DUI's lol

Who cares what others drive? I am only concerned with what I drive.

Ha! I was just south of Jacksonville. I remember the rusting on the cars and they do go faster. I could believe the foot going through the bottom of the car. I just cannot afford to spend more on a car then possibly a down payment on a house. I like to buy cars outright so I dont have yet anohter payment but wow 30,000 plus for a lot of vehicles.

Was at the Lexus dealer in BH looking at cars the other day. Saleslady said 85% of their business is through leased cars. Did not surprise me one bit. LA is the world capital of flash and appearances. Im sure its the exact same at every other high end dealer, also.

People in Florida used to buy the fiberglass body sports cars due to the rust problem. I remember more Porsches and Corvettes.

Interestingly I noticed that leases on some Lexuses don't seem to be that high ..maybe they have lower depreciation than some other 'luxury' cars?

85% does sound like a lot ..but not totally surprising.

Yes, Lexus cars hold their value extremely well. It's because they're so well built and reliable, basically. Lexus may not have the cachet of MB and BMW, but good luck owning one of those outside the warranty.

Yeah, I always thought it was kind of ridiculous that so called 'luxury' cars have more problems than the nonluxury cars.

Not sure about BMW, but I heard the older Mercedes were built to last longer. The current cars while nice looking seem to be pretty over engineered , which of course benefits the car maker and dealers, not the consumer. I have a family member that bought a certified Mercedes, they haven't had problems with it yet but it's not that old . Not sure if they will own it outside of the warranty or not.
