To those that live in DTLA:What are your honest thoughts about living downtown in 2015?

Here's why I ask. I am a 25yr old tech guy relocating to Los Angeles and the plethora of unique neighborhoods is making apartment hunting quite difficult. With all the new investment in DTLA, it has become intriguing as a possible home. I have an office in the 777 building down on Figueroa, and have stayed at just about every hotel within 1/2 mile of the building. Generally, I enjoy the DTLA atmosphere as it is similar to where I live now (downtown Milwaukee), BUT, I am really only wandering the DTLA streets during the day, so my exposure to the night scene is limited.

My concerns are four-part and I'm not sure if any of them would be a problem...
(1) My fiance's general safety. She is a fit 25yr old blonde.
(2) Being disconnected from that lovely laid back "LA vibe".
(3) Walk-ability. I'm sure this depends on the block?
(4) Noise. All my stays have been interrupted by throttle happy supercars at 3am.

Thank you for your responses. I can't be the only one who would love to hear your thoughts about living downtown in 2015.

I drove around Staples center at night to see some of the newer buildings (since I'm looking to buy something) and the answer was simply: NO. JUST NO.

Homeless people EVERYWHERE. the entire place looks like Rio's favelas.

UNBELIEVABLE that the city doesn't do something about it.

as I was driving around that area, there were homeless people everywhere. walking, laying down on the side walk, with TENTS. F'ING TENTS going. How's that even legal.

LAPD is a disgrace.

Rant being said, don't live downtown unless you want to get chased by a hobo with an AIDS infected needle.

By the way, I'm also in the tech field.

Good luck.

Yeah, I agree. People keep saying that DTLA is improving and maybe it is, but it still isn't a place I'd want to live in. Too many homeless people and derelicts walking around. It'd probably be better to just live nearby in Echo Park or Silverlake.

All hyperbole from the above 2 posts. I lived in DTLA from 2010-2013 and have worked here since 2000. I'll post more details later, but needless to say, unless you are living on skid row OP, I think your fears are misplaced.

As to Young Traveler, not sure if he/she is autistic or what, but generally posts are unhelpful and inaccurate.

Are you implying that I'm lying? Everything I said is 100% factual.

Downtown around Staples Center is infested with homeless people. It's a disgrace really.

infested? skid row could be considered infested and maybe the venice boardwalk after dark, but the area around staples center? i don't think so. if there isn't a game, that area is mostly dead after dark.

Agreed. The LAPD downtown is more focused on giving jaywalking tickets than deal with homeless people who pee in the streets and walk around with grocery carts of garbage. It's pathetic.

At the very least your posts are extremely hyperbolic. Everything you say has to be taken with an entire shaker of salt.

I know. LA needs make local burghs like Beverly Hills shoulder their burden.
