This entire essay could be boiled down to "I like New York more than Los Angeles so I want to stay here because I'm happy now . A bunch of my friends and pupils have gone to Los Angeles and found much greater success than I've had, but some of them haven't, so I'm too scared to try. And sometimes insecurities are rough, so if I did try and ended up struggling then other people not wearing their struggles on their sleeves might make me feel bad. "

I think he probably could come up with some who actually are struggling if he thought about it more. I didn't know the comedy scene had left NY for LA, although I do know it's a big deal these days and everyone knows someone who's a comedian it seems.
