No way. LA is way bigger and while many people may be leaving LA for other parts of the country, there are tons of immigrants who keep moving to LA every day. Not to mention, the temperatures in Phoenix. Many people cannot tolerate that heat year-round

True, the people are a lot different as well. I know many people who are moving to Phoenix to retire. Whereas most people that I know moving to LA are young and just starting out their life.

You really know "many people" who are moving to Phoenix to retire? Phoenix actually has a slightly younger population than Los Angeles.

From the 2000 Census

Los Angeles:

The age distribution was: 26.6% under 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 or older. The median age was 32.

Phoenix:

The age distribution was: 28.9% under 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 or older. The median age was 31.

That post was made by someone who doesn't live here. You'll have to forgive him for the misinformation. But that's what happens when people who don't live in L.A. pronounce themselves expert on a place they've only visited.

OMG stop attacking me! I have never once said I was an expert. In fact, I always say I don't know much about LA. I know Phoenix has a rapidly growing population. I also do know many people that moved there for retirement. The question wasn't even about LA! Sorry for trying to help. Get over it and stop making stuff up about me!

"But, I also understand why I am so unhappy here. I remember when rush hour only lasted an hour each way. I remember when the only "violence" at the public schools was a fist fight. I remember when the majority of homes were single family, on a large-ish lot. I remember when our communities were cohesive...people smiled at each other. Neighbors knew each other, and looked out for each other. It was never perfect, but it was slower and not so congested."

As a native of Los Angeles I have to say that it is the folks who have moved to LA from other states (beginning late 1950's - present) that have helped to ruin this city! I remember that same times that you have mentioned.

It is surprising that many who have been here for years still have no knowledge of what this city is about. They have no clue of the history.
They move into a small community/area and that is LA as far as they are concerned.

Again, I am one of the few natives (that I encounter) of Los Angeles. Personally, I wish folks would STOP moving to Los Angeles.

Peace

People moved to LA from out of state and from other countries because it offered opportunities for them. The supply of these opportunities out paced the demand for them by the locals, so they had to be filled up with "out of towners". If these opportunities never existed, not only would the out of towners never moved here, odds are, there would not have been enough opportunities for the locals either, causing migration out of the area. I always like to point out Detroit as an example of this. Yes, LA has its issues with congestion because of its large population, but I will deal with those every day of the week rather than deal with the issues that the decaying cities of the northeast are dealing with.

Took me 30 years, but I got free from the CA trap. Haven't missed it a day.

It is because I am successful that I did not want to spend my time with the unsuccessful, that I got out of CA.
