Have you read the Florida forums? They're just as negative as the California ones. If you want to read lots of positive comments, read the Colorado forums--lots of California "escapees" there.

I participate in the San Antonio forum (and live in that city as a non-Texan), and am so glad that someone else (i.e., Ankhharu) acknowledges that Texans have this completely unrealistic idea of what their cities are like. I do believe that in Texas' case, it's a knee-jerk response to what must be some kind of inferiority complex. They KNOW what the Texas stereotypes are, that sophistication and high culture are appropriately missing from that list of stereotypes. And deep down inside they probably know that all of the negative stereotypes are true. (Bless their hearts Yes, at least the Californians are honest about the positives and negatives, and I enjoy reading the comments.

It's fine to disagree with illegal immigration, but to slam Mexicans and all other Latinos with ill will is too much. Thank you.

Really, does he/she ever give it a rest? We have active organizations such as NCLR, MEChA, LULAC, etc. trying to openly and notoriously take over California, and yet we're at fault for complaining. Good grief. Does anybody wonder why John and Ken are growing in listeners, and why sites such as American Patrol are more popular than ever?

Boy, you're a paranoid person! We also have NAMBLA, the KKK, Aryan Nation, Black Panthers, NOW, and lots of other radical groups in this country... why waste your time getting so upset over them, when they rarely (if ever) succeed in their agendas? There's a reason we refer to them as "radical", LOL.

How about the voice of a non-radical, universally respected American president on the subject?

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

- Theodore Roosevelt, 1907

I'm with Teddy: be proud of your parents' heritage, but consider yourself to be an American.

If it is such a serious federal offense to enter illegallly into the US- why are so many released for humanitarian reasons? Out of 1,300 arrested in the meat-packing raid, about 100 were released. Yet they are here illegally. Why aren`t they in jail? Deported? I`ve never heard of a bank robber being released for humanitarian reasons ("bank robber" seems to be the most popular criminal comparison to illegal immigrants) It is a strange and complicated law, and apparently kinda hard to enforce.

Hello!

Not to criticize, but the undocumented are not 'released for humanitarian reasons.' *Some* are released after being ordered to appear at a deportation hearing. Most are quickly bussed out of the country AFTER being finger-printed, and iris and face photographed (mugshot). Same for the meat-packing raids. Some have arrest warrants and are taken into custody for those crimes. Others are scheduled for deportation hearings. Nearly all at hearing are ordered deported. The U.S. (as with many, many other nations) has tightened up the definition of "asylum." 9/11 changed a lot of things.
