I have noticed that every apartment i see has gas stoves. I don't mean to be incredibly stupid but, Do they have electric stoves. I'm used to paying water, trash and electric bills. I don't want a gas bill. Why isn't there any electric stove apartments?

Economics. Natural gas is less expensive than electricity. Gas is normally available because in SoCal most homes/apartments are heated by natural gas.

Exactly. Why would you want to pay more? You might just check if those apartments are heated by gas, because if they are, you're going to have a gas bill regardless.

Gas is the preferred utility here in SoCal for rentals, and if I am not mistaken cooking with electric requires a dedicated heavier circuit installed to accommodate a stove that uses electricity.
Some folks are afraid of gas, and won't use it, even though the landlord provides it.
In a couple of my units, the tenants have turned off the gas to their unit, and have purchased electric portable heaters, rather than use gas.
They only cook with a microwave, or electric counter top burner.

Bob.

Thanks for the input.! That's a great thing to hear. I am so used to electric stoves and prefer it. It always come to mind about gas in units and Carbon monoxide. That's all, but I will make sure my carbon monoxide detector is installed.

Get a carbon monoxide detector silly. I've only had gas stoves and people who are used to it definitely prefer it. When I lived in LA my stove was gas and so was the water heater.

Exactly. There has been more than one house to purchase or apartment to rent that I declined because they had electric stoves/ovens instead of gas. I "hated" the only electric stove I had. Couldn't cook for anything with it.

I grew up in an electric stove house. Gas wasn't available in our area. When I encountered my first gas stove I thought it was barbaric to be cooking over an open flame inside the house.

My opinion is now 180 degrees different.

With gas it's instant hot, and the gas is SOOOOOOOO much cheaper. Night and day cheaper.

Gas stove. Gas heat. Gas Dryer. Use any and every gas appliance you can. It's the only way to go.

I just moved to CA about 10 months ago and noticed a lot of places with gas too. I subsequently decided to limit my search to those apartments that were all electric which I ultimately found a place I liked that was.

I previously had an apt in another state years ago that had gas and although I didn't have any issue with the gas per se it was still another bill to have. Not to mention even when I barely did any cooking and rarely ever ran the heater during the winter I still had a bill that was more than I'd like since the pilot light is always running. For what i was paying for that I could be paying for 2 streaming services every month. Ironically I found out on the news a few years after I moved out of those apartments there actually was a gas leak that lead to an explosion in one of the apartments in that apartment complex which reiterated no gas for me going forward.

I know this is a gas stove forum ,but I was just wondering why CA landlords never provide refrigerators in their rentals. It's really a pain to have to move a refrigerator (or buy a new one) every time you move from one apartment to another. Someone told me it was because it was disgusting to use someone else's refrigerator. Well, in my opinion, the stove is more disgusting than a refrigerator.....any thoughts or, is there someone out there that knows........
