My wife and I will be moving to LA later this year. I was hoping to get some advice on places to live. My job will be in Pasadena near the 210 and my wife's will be in Northridge a mile from the 118.

Is the best commute the 118 and 210? How long is the drive during commute hours? Are any of the other routes worth thinking about?

Are there fun, safe places to live that are somewhere between Pasadena and Northridge, or is Pasadena the best place for twenty-somethings with no kids? We'd probably be looking for an apartment.

Thanks!

I think any of the southern Valley communties between Sherman Oaks and Glendale would be good options for you.

I would recommend living in one or the other that way only one person has to commute. IMHO, Pasadena is nicer and more family friendly than Northridge. As far as traffic, once your wife is past Downtown, traffic will ease up considerably. The commute won't be that bad. Northridge isn't horrific, it's actually a nice community; however, there is more in terms of dining and entertainment in Pasadena. Old Town Pasadena offers a lot within a walkable distance.

I would recommend living in the Pasadena area (south of the 210 is best) or maybe Glendale/ Eagle Rock. Pasadena is more sophisticated w/ better restaurants and shopping than the Glendale/Eagle Rock area. But they are not that far apart. Forget the Northridge area, crime has really spiked in the SFV (San Fernando Valley) the gangs have started to take over.
