Im in my early 20s, male, single, gonna be going to graduate school, like partying, going out to clubs/bars, women, drinking, etc. but also want to live in a relatively safe, affordable, diverse area. Im going to school near downtown (pico union area) and want to live no more than about 10 miles away.I've been looking at mostly the Hollywood area (90028 zip) or the Palms area (90034). I know all about H-wood, but don't know too much about Palms. Can someone tell me how it would be there for young people? It seems like a decent area. Thanks

EDIT: didn't mention, but Im only lookin at apartments, studio preferably around $1400 a mo or less...

I'd pick Hollywood-Los Feliz area over the Palms! Reason... H-LF has more to offer for more of the eclectic-minded person. Yeah sure it's seedy or gritty, or any adjectives that come to mind for the crowded up-n-coming Hollywood area, but it is quite enterrtaining. The Los Feliz area is wonderful. Pricey! But look around and you'll probably get lucky!
I wouldn't consider the Palms-Culver City area. Close to the same price, but very boring. OK shopping....and not much of a night life! Yeah, a few bars here or there, but they're not worth the time!

Good Luck!

Have you considered the brand new apartments they are leasing at Wilshire and Vermont at the Metro station? I think they might be within your price range and closer to the Pico/Union school than either Hollywood or Culver City. They are right on the purple Metro subway line so you could take the red line subway into Hollywood, and since they are brand new they are probably nicer than you will find in either Hollywood or Culver City. I see a lot of young professionals moving there to be close to school/work. If you are interested, let me know and I will find a telephone number for you to call tomorrow.
