To everyone that's saying the climate sucks, no it does not. The climate is one of the main reasons why millions of people moved here. The micro-climates are extremely different as well. It could be 90 and sunny in the valleys while Santa Monica is enjoying 65 under the Marine Layer. The beaches almost never get over 90F and there is a constant sea breeze. It depends on where in LA you are .

The only times it is "hot" is form late July - October (aside from those random days during the winter when it can soar into the 80s or 90s). The rest of the year is fairly comfortable, and we do get the occasional rain from Dec - Apr, more or less depending on the year.

There is no snow, no hurricanes and almost no severe storms. And to add on to the statement that LA is hot in the summer... not really. Many other places in the US get way hotter and we have for the most part what is called "Dry Heat", which is nothing compared to the humid heat the SE gets.

Mt. Lukens is only 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Yes, it is nice to plan something during the summer, like a trip to the beach, and not worry about getting rained out.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

Fifteen miles as the crow flies. Just three miles from the 210. The Haines Canyon trailhead to the summit is just a mile off Foothill Boulevard.

It's not unusual for the hottest days at the beaches to be in late fall or even winter when hot, dry offshore Santa Ana winds blow and heat by compression.

LA summers are "brutal?"
The average summer maximum temp at downtown LA is 84-86 degrees... very comfortable and cooler than many cities in the mid-west and east coast.

Rangers will throw you out if they catch you there right now....the fire station fire, that place is toast for now.

I'll bet that poster spent those 4 years in the SFV. Apparently, 4 years wasn't enough to introduce that person to the concept of LA's huge size vs its many microclimates.
