DH and I hoping to move to Santa monica but want a house for under 4000 a month in rent - so someone suggested West LA. I know nothing about it. I am from brooklyn, 32, 1 baby - learning how to drive when i move there. DH is 35, writer - works from home but has lots of meeting at various studios and in BH area.

we want: 3 bedroom home or nice apartment. walking distance to a cofee shop and grocery store. (beach breeze if possible.)
Please advise where the heck we should live, and what type of area is West la.

look for rentals on craigslist and type the addresses into walkscore.com and you'll find out how close you are to local grocery stores and coffee shops. $4k should get you a nice place.
