I remember Fashions night club on the Redondo Beach Pier back when I was in HS. I seem to remember them advertising on KROQ about a Fashions in Upland, but I never saw that one. I believe Richard Blade even DJ-ed there back in the 80s.

I went to the Poop Deck a couple times back in the 80s around there, I think I remember $0.50 pitchers for an hour or maybe a half hour.

Yeah Decline.. part II was the one I saw. I'd love to see the original. Is it on netflix? I hate to admit it, but I was part of the "Nu-metal" scene in L.A. in the late 90's.

When it was changed to Shelter (then Privilege) I think there was an episode of Entourage filmed there, where they're lounging in what looked like a tiny, tiny white spa/Barbarella-styled room... Nothing like the Coconut Teaszer anyone would remember. XIV is even farther gone. My God. The inside looks like Architectural Digest.

Perkins Palace (Raymond Theater) is on the National Register of Historic Places, so it's not going anywhere. According to its MySpace page, Beyond Baroque signed a new lease over a year ago that guarantees its continued presence in the Venice location for another 25 years.

It was before I could order drinks - but I remember they allowed under 21 on certain nights and you had to have a wristband to order booze.

$0.50 pitchers - I doubt we'll ever see that again!

I was at that Helmet show at Bogart's the OP mentioned. What a memory rush!

A few other places that used to be around that come to mind: Club 321 in Santa Monica, Hong Kong Cafe in downtown LA, The Anti-Club on Melrose, Florentine Gardens in Hollywood, Flippers Roller Disco (where Prince played after "Dirty Mind") in West Hollywood, and The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach. Good times.

"32-Young" was 321's nickname due to their tolerance of underaged drinking. It was more of a dance club than a live music venue, similar to the Odyssey in Beverly Hills (including the tolerance of underaged drinking).

Hooter's is there now.

The Anti-Club is now a hip hop oriented dance club.

Florentine Gardens got knocked down.

Flippers is now a CVS Pharmacy.

Wow you said Glam Slam...

The "artist formerly known as Prince" owned that club I used to go there all the time.

But do you remember that spot when it was called Vertigo?

How about China Club... anyone 'member that spot? Ommmg... How about the "Stock Exchange"?

(I used to be such a club bunny)....

Check out this LA times article that documents the L.A. underground club scene back in 1986! I guess it's a historical artifact now! Ha!

I forgot about the restaurant Gorky's that LA Times article mentions. Another music place I just remembered is Club 88 in West LA. Lots of skinny-tie action in that room as I recall.
