But you can't make things from that, as can be done with oil.

LA has reached it's sprawl limit. So developers focus back into the heart of the city. Downtown alot of love. At one point the freeway system has taken a toll. However all has been relieved with multiple rail lines and encouragement of using them. Car culture has taken a dive these days. In part of the fact that tolls are put in place. So combined with gas, commuting with automobile's has taken a back seat now that public transit is the most cheapest and most convenient way. Downtown L.A. is a towering metropolis that now rivals NYC It's not as tall for the most part but strip malls are 99% gone. Hundreds of people walk the streets rather than drive, and the street cars have returned. This time raised above ground to not interfere with foot and auto traffic.
Fast forward more into the future, LA is gigantic. Freeways have changed. Old ones have been converted for people. For example, outer lanes have been turned into sidewalks and a new type of architecture has emerged that saved the freeways from demolition. Structures have been built along these freeways, some residential, some buisiness. These were used to sustain the huge population growth. So we call these "freeway neighborhoods". Streetcars have been built in the center of these areas going all the way through. No cars are allowed on them either. New freeways support faster traffic and are more "crazy" than the old freeways. Now that cars have computers assisting drivers, it is easier to drive faster and have control. Computers keep a look out for the driver and determine safe passages through traffic. Turns on freeways are even very banked like race tracks in order to support the high speeds. Downtown Los Angeles is massive. There is even a 2nd level in the east side over warehouse district. There are more streets above. Wilshire blvd is line up with giant sky scrapers. Mcarther Park has been left completely to pedestrians. A bridge now goes over the part area all the way to pico union. It's not massive but it was done to allow the park to get bigger and be better for residence.

Fast foward even more:

Potato

The End..

Just a fun fantasy..

LA is def. safer. 1980's thru mid-90's was statistically terrible.

Escape provided the facts and now you want to change the topic. Good idea when you are losing.

If car culture has "taken a dive" why is LA still #2 in congestion behind Honolulu? It isn't because LA dropped or improved, it is just because HNL had no place to go with their traffic unless they build freeways out in the ocean.

In no way has driving taken a back seat in LA to public transportation.

The famous saying in LA is "everyone is in favor of public transportation...... so the other guy will take it and get off the freeway so your commute is easier."

More than that, it's the traditional expectation of a great deal of living space that most Americans have that will need to be overcome. People in NYC and Tokyo make do with a great deal less, generally speaking; that is part of how density works in those places.

I think, Los Angeles will be destroyed, by an earthquake.
WORSE, its sucks, glad I got out. I predict it will get progressively worse.
