Grad school? So how old are you? Trust me you don't want to get stuck in a dirty complex with 18-20 yr olds. If your 23 or older it's worth the drive to stay in a nicer place. Laffy is not that big, you can live just about anywhere. I would look into the Bridgeway Apts on Dulles. Lafayette is VERY VERY VERY different from NJ, but its pretty safe (bad timing with the girl disappearing from dt), but anywhere around campus, you'll be fine.

No kidding right?? Bad timing for sure. Still a good place to live though.

To the OP, I would suggest, if you can afford it and don't mind the drive, you rent a house in Youngsville and commute to school at UL. If you are over 20 yrs old, you will probably like it more. Traffic is horrible in Laffy for sure, but honestly I wouldn't want to live anywhere NEAR Johnston street. Just going to the store for bread will be a traffic nightmare almost any time of day and the neighborhood turns pretty hood pretty quickly depending on which street you turn down off of University Ave.
