Hi there. I happened to conduct a search for best places to live in Louisiana and the link to this forum came up. I had to click on it because I have a wonderful English friend who is currently in London. However, he did live for a short period of time in the Louisiana area. Upon his leaving, we kept in touch via the Internet and continue to do so after 5 years. We have slight cultural differences. They amuse us and we love to learn from one another. I currently live in Lake Charles, LA and my husband and I will be relocating within the next couple of months to the New Orleans or the surrounding areas. We will both be working in the city of New Orleans and we would like to lessen the commute if at all possible. I'm also concerned about which areas to consider and finding an excellent school for my daughter tops the list. I hadn't considered Covington...we were kinda thinking of the Baton Rouge area. That may tend to be a hassle. Anyway, I have lived in Louisiana for 37 years now. It is an unique place and the food is absolutely the best that I've ever had. I'm rambling a bit...I'm a bit nervous as well and I LIVE within the state. I basically just wanted to write and wish you and your family the best and to welcome you. We are happy to have you. Good luck and take care. As for the bi-racial thing, those of us in the deep south have received a bad rap over the years. We've advanced beyond what you may well imagine. As for the few ignorant folks who haven't...give them a smile, move on and consider yourself the luckier one.

If you want to live in a real city, move to New Orleans. It;s the only city in Louisiana that even remotely resembles a European city. It has everything you want, cultural diversity, access to the arts, and more importantly, people who are educated.

Yes. Livingston Parish is the armpit of the US. It's a virtual third-world country in terms of progress. Avoid it like the plague.
