Hi, my son will be going to college next year. We have lived in La for 2 years. He thinks he wants a CS degree, not totally sure but definitely something in computers. He does qualify for TOPS so I want him to go to school in La. We are wanting to visit North Western and LA Tech because they are both about an hour from home. He will live on campus. He is not into the party life. He is a computer geek. Had a ACT score of 26 last year. Any help appreciated!

The University of Louisiana here in Lafayette has a well established Computer Science program.

Are there really that many GOOD jobs in the computer science field now ? It seems like the market would be saturated with at least two generations of graduates . Just wondering .

I went there so I am biased but UL-Lafayette has built a new computer science building and that, along with nursing and engineering, seem to be where they excel above anyone (including LSU and UNO). I hear SLU in Hammond has a strong computer background as well. So in case your son wants to get out and be in South Louisiana he has some options as well.

Not sure... but since the turn of the century there has been a flood of "web designers" that can't actually write html, css or php... but they can click a mean button in wysiwyg web site software.

Be careful what you choose. So many universities in Louisiana are facing budget cuts, that if I were your son, I would choose LSU since LSU is the best university in Louisiana, as well as the flagship school.

Thanks for all the help. I will check out these colleges. He isn't even sure what he wants to do in computers. He just loves them. LOL He does not want to do web design he knows that. Probably something in programming.

I know people who attended the Community College here in town who've landed high paying jobs doing "computer work" for some of the largest oil companies in the state. (maintaining networks, installations, etc)

ULL does have a very very good CS program and brand new facilities for it. I definitely recommend taking a tour of it.
