Well thats good that they are getting all those high tech jobs with pretty good pay scales i bet. Do you think that Tyler Tech did good on not building there building downtown i think that it might have helped out downtown a little bit.

It needs to have jobs that pay more than 30k a year. Outside of medical, you can't make that, and even nurses aren't getting paid all that well. Many graduates move on to DFW, Houston, etc because they can command more for their skills.

everyone that leaves lubbock goes to dallas like if it is la or las vegas , grass has to be greener over there? well if waiting an hour to get 1 mile on I 20 is your cup of tea , or having to have an emissions test on your car , or having to pay more for cost of living is worth the 2$ more per hour then by all means move to the metroplex... just an opinion

I wish mcdougal would build some copies of already famous buildings like make lubbock a tourist location with half size replicas that are apartment buildings or more hotels ... hell a 50 story empire state building would be bad ass... our skyline sucks but is no worse than elpaso or albuquerque as far as number of buildings and height...i see lubbock being 350,000 by 2020 hell teen pregnancies will get us halfway there...
this is just a ms paint rendering ...

I was iin Lubbock two hours ago and you could be right. The City certainly has a much larger "bulge" out to the southwest than it did when I owned a home out on 96th and Slide some 25 years ago.

lubbock and wolforth are seperated by only a bridge , I remeber when 82nd street was lubbocks outskirts. now they have new houses 500,000 $ homes all the way past 175th st near slide road.. 98th st now is like 82nd st was 10 years ago.. What disturbs me is they are not new people to the town just people packing up and leaving 34th and 50th st behind...

Isn't the investment money for the Tyler Technology Facilities coming from the taxpayers and not private funds? I thought I read that somewhere.
I read in a national financial mag that it public financing was used but that it'll pay massive dividends in the long run due to the high wages and good jobs that any city would like to have.

You're probably right. 34th and 50th Streets are certainly not the same as they were in 1968 when I first saw Lubbock.

My family is returning to the Lubbock area for retirement but we plan to live out in the northern part of the County, or possibly in southern Hale County.

I have to disagree with you there. I live in the south central part of Lubbock, and of the four houses on my block that were on the market, all were bought by people from out of state. (Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and California to be exact) I have heard several similar stories from other friends as well. The latest census estimate has Lubbock at 220,000, which is 21,000 more than the 2000 census. Those homes are being built to meet the demand of a growing population.

Well, that is something. Now, it would be nice if someone out there with a real idea (maybe an architect) that can put something in downtown (other than the McDougal guys) would give us a rendering of what a proposed real high-rise might look like. And you've just ignited our imaginations.
