Well the sole purpose of this development is attract more people to invest, live, shop and etc Downtown; It all good to preserve the historic look; but the red tape of preserving that Historic look can sometimes hinder positive growth. Its time to get away from that small town and negative mentality, bring more of these modern type projects to Macon; Macon needs more modern and up-to-date developments especially downtown to attract investors and enhance the quality of life for the city, thats one of the things that Industries and Companies look for when considering an area for their company; Mixed-use, Work, Live & Play environments. Thats one of the strong amenities that Atlanta has and uses it along with it's infrastructure to market and bring in industries to that area; Ask you your self this question, What company would want to force hundreds and thousand of people to work and live in a boring city with nothing to offer the employees would be mensurable. For an example a few years ago the North Bibb/Bass Rd area was as dead as a door knob; but because of the Bass pro shops deciding to invest into that area it spurred so much development into that area..... Thats what this project is projected to do for Downtown; spur more people to invest, live, work and play Downtown and once that starts; those vacant properties and eyes sores will become hot commodity.

Thats whats wrong with so many people today, too quick to jump on the negative side of things, instead of thinking positive and giving things a opportunity to work; Always keeping things the same, scared to invest and never wanting to step out on a limb will and has never contributed to great successful; something in order to gain you have to be willing to fail and endure through what seems impossible..... I have seen so many cities like Macon make a 360 degree turnaround just because of a project like this was developed; Plus there is more of a strong possibility of Macon-Atlanta commuter rail is in the near future and it would indeed help fuel more developments like this in Macon.

Oh yeah, as for the Music Hall of Fame building; someone has already express strong interest in the site; Hal Miles a professor of animation at the Savannah College of Art & Design -- has been working on creating the International Animation Hall of Fame, which includes finding a property that could house the collection of about 29,000 pieces of animation-related material; He wants to convert it the building to fit his plans that would include a 450-seat IMAX theater, a cafe and gift shop to go along with the museum space.

This doesn't have to do with negativity; more along the lines of practicality. It is hard to understand why we would spend money on yet another building when there are so many already standing that could be refurbished to accomplish the same thing. Perhaps not as "towerish" but still could be built to accomodate condos, and in fact, IN downtown.

This site is well policed by people who are probably getting pay-offs from Chamber of Commerces.

You are completely correct in your analysis. Look at what was once the Hilton/whatever it is this week. The place hasn't been able to do enough business to survive in over 20 years now. The new hotel next to the Coliseum is already laying off employees. Macon's economy is in horrific shape. Hell - look at ALL of the motels in Macon. Most of them have changed names in the last decade. We can't even support a Holiday Inn (on Arkwright).

The reason for macon's terrible shape, there is nothing bringing business, there are no attractions (anymore) and when things are proposed that better the economy, they are opposed because no one wants change. The reason macon is struggling is its own fault.

You're absolutely right. Macon has NOTHING that any tourist would remotely care about.

None of the church people want to hear this, but perhaps one of the few things that would save this place would be to put casinos from Riverside & Spring clear down to CC Park. (My god - I can hear the gasps from here). Think about it, though. People WILL come for that. Tourists don't give one crap about the Georgia Sports HoF (nor the silly Music HoF). This is logic. And before anybody starts crying "Oh - but it will bring in people we don't want around", keep in mind that THOSE people are far more acceptable than the people we already HAVE in d'town.

Too bad we'll never see anything like that, though. Most folks around here are way too backwards to ever accept something like that, and they live in a veil of denial that Macon actually has things of entertainment value that are better than what Atlanta (a mere 80 miles up the road) has to offer.

I for one would love to see casinos come here. But I highly doubt that will happen, with this being the buckle of the bible belt.
