I'm moving from Wisconsin to Maine (via Japan) around August 1st. A lot of the things I like about Wisconsin seem to be in Maine and amplified in many cases like : hiking, fishing, camping, shoreline (but yours is saltier ), small cities, 4 seasons, etc. but I'm interested in more.

If you could pick 5 things for a person to do in Maine what would they be and why?

-West Quoddy Lighthouse (I'm partial)
-Acadia National Park (that's a given)
-Boat to Machias Seal Island or a whale-watch
-A scenic road trip through one of the rural regions with a fishing pole and hiking boots
-hiking on the Bold Coast

As you can see, most of mine is Downeast-related

To get an overview of Maine history check out the State of Maine Museum in Augusta and also the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. Both of these will give you a great perspective of Maine and how it became what it is today.

You'd have to specify where you are moving. I wouldn't miss the Banff film festival in February if I lived near or in Ellsworth, and I do. I'd go with the Reny's thing

Since he says Maine in general and Maine itself is all pretty close together (maybe a Portland to Fort Kent trip is a huff but otherwise, everything is an afternoon drive from each other), I'd assume everything is on the table. I'd add as a sixth Moosehead Lake and Mt. Katahdin (although, I've been to neither personally but hear good things regularly).
