I have been living in Northern California for the past 30 years and loved it, but because my husband and I recently divorced, and there’s not much to hold me here in CA, I am thinking of relocating back to the East Coast, where I grew up and where my folks still live – in PA.

I’m leaning toward somewhere in New England. I sooooo miss the seasons changing. The only thing is, I’d love to find someplace where the humidity isn’t totally out of control. I’m not real happy in hot weather, but add humidity and I get really grouchy!

I might eventually be looking for a small horse property (maybe 20 acres or less) that could be found in an area where there are good trails for riding - maybe state forest or conservation land.

Any suggestions re: best places for horse-back riding and best locations to keep the humidity to a minimum?

Thank you for any and all input!

Welcome!

We once lived in Upper Lake, Lake County, Northern California!

After my retirement we wanted to live in New England, but so much of it is urban, trying to find rural, we found Maine.

Anywhere up here the humidity to within bearable levels.

And there are many properties in the 10-100 acre range that you might be happy with.

I just attended an event this past weekend with a lot of draft horse competitions.

Otherwise I must say that you need more specific requirements. I am so sorry.

The main concern is for vet care for your horse. Not many large animal vets in downeast Maine or northern Maine. Bangor area and south is going to have much more in the way of vet care.
The Augusta/Belgrade area has some nice horse farms. Check out the horses maine dot com. Local equine paper.
Also, Maine is a humid state, not like down south, but still quite humid.
Good Luck with your search.

Default Thanks, all

Thank you all for your input. Yes, the vet thing would be a concern. I will be careful to go where there's access to large animal vets.
