I know the Kmart in Waterville was built circa 1959-1960 as a Grant City big-box store, a child of the Grants dime store company. They shut down in a huge bankruptcy in 1975-1976 and lots of their stores became Kmart immediately after. But I believe I read a couple places over the years that the Grants/Kmart in Waterville was also a Mammoth Mart in between. Supposedly they went bankrupt and were sold to the Kings chain (based in NJ but with stores up to at least NH) in 1977, but Kings definitely went out of business in 1984, with Ames buying many locations, which itself went out of business in 2002. So I was wondering... was the Kmart in Waterville ever actually a Kings or Ames? I get the feeling it was neither because Kmart was at the site by no later than 1997, but there are missing pieces to this puzzle.
