How have you been able to avoid at least Ellsworth?

Maineah, you've never gone to Acadia Nat'l Park... the Schoodic Peninsula, etc?

I have driven through ellsworth, the traffic is a pain.

Actually I have driven through Ellsworth a few times. Once we drove to the National Park too. I was not impressed.

Folks deal with what they have. I guess.

I think Ellsworth has a cute little "downtown" with quaint shops mixed w/ old-timey retail. I never get to stop though. When we go up to visit family , my husband is one of the "got to make good time" drivers...only stop to pee. There are some really pretty river views off the beaten track.
we have had several unnerving cop stops...once in Belfast in '83. The cop started loosening his holster when then-future hubby insisted on reading the citation before signing. Another time in So. Berwick we were stopped by two cruisers as we left a local bar. After they blinded us with their flashlights they told us "they were lookin for someone else". No apologies.
The last time was New Year's Eve '05, I was stopped for speeding(44 in the 35 zone) with a Jeep full of my kooky dog and hot Chinese takeout while my eyes were all blurred out mourning the recent loss of my sister. I almost had a emotional meltdown right there in front of the rookie cop. He doesn't know how lucky he was just giving me a warning. I was so depressed and messed up, a ticket would have turned me into a blubbering, hysterical idiot. Dumb luck. I've never gotten an actual ticket all these years.
