I had to join this thread because we are thinking of moving to Maine, and are also conservatives. Wondering what the political ratio is in Maine. We're currently in CA (though both my husband and I are from other places). We're sick of CA and the high cost of living not to mention the liberal agenda. How is the job scene in Portland area? What is life like? I'm originally from MA so I'm a new Englander at heart myself.

Hm. When I was Downeast last October is was Trumpland everywhere. But yes it's live and let live. The way it should be. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And Downeast is absolutely beautiful..

The Portland area is VERY liberal. Once you get away from Portland (and the coast) you will find Maine to be pretty conservative.
Portland has an unemployment rate around 3%.

Aroostook (although not Downeast) is conservative as well. You can google and find a map of the 2016 vote in Maine. Based on land mass, a huge portion of Maine would be considered conservative and the electoral vote was split 3 and 1. The huge land mass (conservative) has a much smaller population.

Interesting map. All the "coastal counties" voted Blue - except Washington county - which is coastal but has a lot of inland also.
