The high speed Catamaran ferry "The Cat" is back in service between Portland, Bar Harbor, and Yarmouth Nova Scotia.
Several years ago we took a vacation in Canada starting with a quick trip across the Gulf of Maine to Nova Scotia with our truck and camping gear on "The Cat". It's an amazing ride.
There is food and drink aboard, duty free shop, and even a few slot machines to play on your quick ride across the bay.
"The Cat" is just about twice as fast as the older ship "Bluenose" which ran out of Bar Harbor. It's a great trip and with the price of gas these days, quite reasonable.

I've been wanting to try the cat. I have to drive close to 2hours to get to Bar Harbor (that is south of me) to then travel back up to Nova Scotia. I always wondered if I be crazy to do that.
I've heard alot of good things about the Cat thou.
If I go to Nova Scotia, I would want to at least spend one night there then come home. Most people do a day trip.

It's fun Peachie, I think you'd really like it.
We drove back through New Brunswick on the way home and camped out here and there. It is a beautiful area and not unlike Maine.

Your right, I do enjoy New Brunswick. We went to Saint John on Monday and spent the day. I like the ride.
Last year we drove to Moncton and then over to PEI. We got to the turn off for PEI or Nova Scotia- and we decided to take the bridge across to PEI. That was great.

I don't see my travel time this summer. It's our busy season so it's nothing until Fall.

Be fun if we all planned a get together on the Cat. We could cruise open sea while we travel to another country. hehe

I've never done The Cat, however did The Scotia Prince a few times, it was okay. It didn't really thrill me too much, I can only eat, drink and gamble for so long before I'm bored to tears.

The "old" Cat that originated up there is down here now, running trips between Fort Myers and Key West. We surprised my Dad for his 75th birthday a few years ago while they were down here wintering. Us "kids" surprised Dad at their door and hi-jacked he & my mom and we all jumped on The Cat and went to Key West for his surprise birthday weekend.
We had no idea it was the one from Maine until one of the crew recognized my sister and all got to talking.
Great Weekend, one he won't ever forget! You're never too old to have fun in Key West!

Gee, I was just looking at the Cat fares yesterday. Never tried it, although I was on the Scotia Prince once and spent a couple days in Halifax that were wonderful!
I guess the Cat is way faster? How long did it take, Maineah?
The Scotia Prince was an overnight trip.

Hey Peachie, what did you think of Prince Edward Island? I've always wanted to go there after reading Anne of Green Gables.

Anyone know where the Scotia Prince is these days? I read a few years ago it went down to New Orleans after Katrina housing displaced dockworkers.

I too want to check out the Cat...looks pretty amazing.
