Where in Maryland would you most want to live and why? (Baltimore: house, neighborhood)

Perhaps Central MD, in the DC and Baltimore burbs? The Chesapeake and Atlantic beaches of Eastern MD? Southern MD? The mountainous western areas?

I've grown up in Central MD, mainly MoCo. Now I'm living in PG. I like both counties, although I'd almost prefer living in the farther out portions. I've always wanted to really experience some of the other parts of Maryland... I can imagine that a lot of HoCo, Balt. Co and AA Counties are similar to the DC suburbs, but I know that Southern MD and most of the Eastern Shore are quite rural.

I think I'd like College Park, Silver Spring, Rockville, Frederick, Hagerstown, Cumberland and Ellicott City.

I've only been to half of them however.

Reasons:

College Park: Despite all the negative I hear, low housing costs, large university and DC proximity.
Silver Spring: Proximity to DC, it has it's own downtown, Ethiopian 'stuff' seems interesting to have around.
Rockville: Proximity to DC, easy lines into the city, less expensive than Bethesda.
Frederick: An actual small city within striking distance of DC.
Hagerstown: Love the housing stock, is filled with character. (In my opinion).
Cumberland: Small town, in the mountains, interesting geography.
Elicott City: Too expensive for me for being that far from DC, but nice geography and 'look' to the housing are plusses.

As far away from DC as you can get. Far Western MD and the lower Eastern Shore sound like a great respite to me from decades of living in Central MD. (I can't imagine Southern MD staying rural for much longer). I'll be playing it safe, though, and retiring outside the state to avoid being nickled and dimed to death in my final years. I will be moving from MD as soon as the opportunity strikes - likely for somewhere in the Midwest.

Maybe the eastern shore so I can be close to the beaches.

Bethesda, if I could afford to live in a sfh there. I'm a sucker for affluent suburbs with good downtowns. Metro stop seals the deal.

It depends; mostly... on who is paying the bills.
And secondarily on whether I'd need to earn a living where I was or not.

Assuming I didn't have to work, Ocean City. Beach, loads to do and my favorite club in Maryland, Seacrets. May get somewhat boring in the winter but Salisbury isn't too far away.

Federal Hill, where I live now. No place I'd rather be.... but I would like a bigger house in my neighborhood.

Bethesda. I like living in a city where I don't actually to live in it. Walkable, safe and accessible. I like being able to drive, use the circulator or metro my way around places.

Rockville is another alternative with everything above at a cheaper price.

If someone else is paying the bills, I would like a bay-front estate in Kent County with a boat-dock and bulkheading.
