If you dont need 'serious' jazz and just somewhere to hang out, listen to live music and have a drink, downtown Ellicott City is fun. The Lotte Plaza (asian, but focusing on Korean market) is at the US29 and 40 intersection. High population of asians in Ellicott City.
Several small fitness studios as well (for example, Ellicott City Karate and Fitness,
The Yoga Center of Columbia ). Also, you've got the big national companies - Lifetime Fitness has their 'posh' facility
Life Time Fitness Columbia , the YMCA in EC is crazy busy all the time, and then there's all the Columbia Association gyms/pools/facilities (if you live or work in Colubmbia there's discounts on memberships). So good or bad, there's a lot of people into fitness in Howard County and there's a lot of facilities catering to them.
