I expect the nominee to be either Doug Gansler, Anthony Brown or some other dark horse candidate (SRB, Donna Edwards, Van Hollen).
There are conservative Democrats around though not as numerous as before, especially since Kerry and Obama when the liberal elite wing overtoook the national party. There are still conservative Democrats in Baltimore City and PG County, mostly black, who support liberals fiscally, but are against gay marriage and abortion. Inner city and black Democrats are very prominent for example in the Maryland Marriage Alliance. Areas like eastern Baltimore County do have a history of union Democrat types similar to Pennsylvania and the Midwest though the Democrats have been alienating them with high taxes and toll increases, and many of them are also not great fans of gay marriage and abortion, or of illegal immigrants which the new Democrats really love.

There are MORE democrats who see it the other way.

People who would welcome some fiscal solvency measures that made sense...
but who have no problem whatsoever with continuing to support civil liberties and choice.
Even if that ends up costing more.

When I say Conservative Democrats I mean:

Fiscally Conservative
Socially Moderate

Somebody like Evan Bayh, Harold Ford Jr. or Heath Shuler.

IMHO these are the worst types of Democrats. All of the taxes and none of the social reform. I can't stand them.

The next Governor will be a Liberal Democrat from either PG, MoCo or Baltimore City.

Bottom line is Maryland is a lost cause politcally. If you are a moderate or a conservative send your political donations to a national candidate and plan your retirement in another state like me.
