IDK what the explanation is but I heard on the news a couple nights ago that there have been 13 armed robberies in Salisbury in June alone.

Salisbury has historically had high crime levels. The reason most don't know about it is because many local news organizations don't report it. As for reasons why there is so much crime.... possibly the 24% of the local population that lives below the poverty level. This spawns drug activity and all the other negatives that high poverty levels bring. The job market here is very sad. My wife and I were fortunate but I see ALOT of others that aren't. Overall I don't know many people that are very happy here. Most of the locals that stay do so because of family that lives here. Most college/high school kids run away as soon as they can.

I decided to live in a newer house in a small town within 15 min of campus. It is super small, Main St USA type of town with new housing developments. It is super safe, I have a huge backyard, the neighborhood is well kept and my landlord said he never locked the doors. I like the fact that it is diversified but I guess everyone is in the same SES bracket, there is a gay couple next door and a black family on the other side.
