Bigger point is that the argument "We won't do it until other states do it" is a bit moot now. The ball is already rolling. I really hope MD gets on board. The 6th is an abomination of a congressional district. Folks who live in it can't win it, and we are a huge target for any MD/VA/DC carpetbagger who thinks he/she can afford to get elected to Congress. This applies to Delaney, Trone, Bongino and Hoeber...........even though Delaney was an acceptable Congressman.
looking at the map the 6th isn't the biggest abomination. Look at the2nd, 3rd, and 4th! Most of the districts are abominations of what a district should be.

It may not be the ugliest........but that is only because it was easy to follow county lines in Western Maryland and Washington Co. to lump all the Republicans together.......then add the foot like Dem dominated appendage in southern Frederick/Montgomery County that outweighs it all.

What makes the 6th truly "ugly" is that it was the Congressional seat that was altered the most nationally in the last round of redistricting, and what we ended up with is a district with zero commonality between its constituents. If my math is right 7/8 of the candidates who made it to the general since 2012 have lived out of district.....only Roscoe made his home there.

It is rightly seen as a artificial construct of a district that can bought with enough campaign money. So, enter political money bundler and uber wealthy John Delaney, and wealthy slime ball David Trone, and fake astronaut Amie Hoeber, and uber-ambitious Annapolite Dan Bongino.

I'm pretty surprised Dems weren't able to gerrymander all 8 into Dem districts. There are certainly enough blue votes to go around: the 2nd is D+11, 3rd is D+13, 4th is D+28, 5th is D+16, 6th is D+6, 7th is D+26, and the 8th is D+14. Meanwhile, the 1st is R+14.

Now that I look it up, 538 was able to gerrymander it to 8-0 just fine by stretching the 1st into what's currently the 4th (which, again, is a ridiculous D+28), so what's up with the lazy gerrymandering, Dems? For shame.

We had some good conversations here (with maps) about the various plans the Dems had for redistricting back then. And yes, one of the final contenders was an attempt to flip both the 1st and the 6th.
