We have reached the same decision! Glad we looked into all aspects before making decisions!

I read that most people that move in retirement end up back in their home state by early 80’s. We have a great network of friends and I wouldn’t give it up.

I also reached this conclusion for myself recently. I had broad possibilities, but in the end it came down to MD vs. PA, and I'd just rather be in proximity to water than mountains.

I'm toying with the idea of walking the entire Appalachian Trail after I retire in several years. Then I'd like to move to PA where pensions aren't taxed and perhaps buy a place large enough for me to grow vegetables and start a car restomod project.

As I rode my bike along perfectly flat farmland with Bay views I thought about how you can see the Appalachian Mountains from Main Street in Mt Airy and in 2 hours you can be in a place that looks like 2 different parts of the country. I think that's unique, I realized how much this area has to offer and decided there's no place like home.

If you only see traffic on the Beltway, Baltimore crime and rude drivers you are only seeing part of the state. I know it's not for everyone, that has been made clear here over the years, but for many of us this state is pretty nice.
My sincerest condolences!

Maybe you realized you would no longer be living a in dem controlled area and couldn't handle it.

Just stop this nonsense, I was set to move to the heart of Trump territory without reservations. Politics never came into play in our decision, the town we live in now is solid Trump.

The post about moving back their 80's was on target. This was my wife's issue, being so far from family when we needed help. I countered by stating that when we got to that point we would sell the TN house and just get a condo back here close to family. But that's 20 years from now, I was cool with the plan until just a few weeks ago when I did a complete 180.

I wish Montgomery County had similar politics as Mount Airy.

But no such luck for me.
